About Me

Kellen Flynn (he/him) is a theatre director who aims to create unapologetic transformative theatrical experiences while prioritizing accessibility and entertainment value.

Kellen started his theatrical career at 8 years old as an actor, since then he has performed in many plays and musicals, and continues to develop himself as an actor to this day. Directing from this background, he has developed a character-focused, collaborative process- enabling actors to express their artistry using character relationships, perspectives, motivations, and obstacles as the springboard to build the world of a play through it’s characters eyes.

Kellen is an alumnus of the BADA London Theatre Program and holds a BA in Theater at Whitman College, where he received distinction directing his thesis production, God of Carnage. Kellen found himself at Whitman as the recipient of their Presidential Scholarship for Theater. During his time at Whitman, he was the founding President of Whitman College’s chapter of Alpha Psi Omega. Additionally, through the Department of Theater and Dance, Kellen was awarded the Brandon Bruce Lee Scholarship, the Brad Hunt Music Award for Outstanding Contribution to Musical Theater, and the Marilyn Sparks Award for Leadership in Theater. During his freshman year, Kellen also started his own student theatre company called The Whitman Musical Theatre Project as a means to create direction and design opportunities for underclassmen, as well as yearly musical theatre performance opportunities for Whitman students, something the school did not offer until this point.

Professionally, Kellen has held an internship teaching with Seattle Children’s Theatre and worked for Walla Walla Summer Theater for 2 years, where he taught youth acting classes and helped start their “Spring Studio Play” program, where he was hired to renovate an old dance studio into a black box theatre space and direct their inaugural production of Alan Ball’s Five Women Wearing the Same Dress.
